So far, the A-Class only got some beauty accessories and racing “lipstick” from AMG department. But now for the first time AMG sports department will left his true mark on the new A-class which will get an incredible sports package – 265 kilowatts powerful two-liter engine and four-wheel drive for the Mercedes A45 AMG.

2013 Mercedes A45 AMG strongest hot hatch

Mercedes A45 AMG’s world premiere happened at Geneva Motor Show in March 2013. AMG division prepared a car with a consistent and high-flying racing package that will equal A45 AMG model with its main competitors BMW M135 and the new Audi RS3. After all it will have an engine with 265 kilowatts which puts this car to the top of the list of the most powerful sporting hatchbacks, or in the jargon named “hot hatches”.

AMG’s four-cylinder engine with 265 kilowatts – most powerfull 2-liter engine to date?

For A45 model AMG used only four-cylinder petrol engine. By assurances from Mercedes-Benz this is the most powerful two-liter engine installed by anyone in the serial car. Engine is capable of producing 265 kilowatts (355 PS) and 450 Nm of torque and can be also found in Mercedes SUV class GLA 45 AMG.

This was achieved by increasing the pressure in the cylinders and direct fuel injection and fully aluminum engine design. Each engine is hand-made in a factory in Affalterbach, Germany.

The maximum speed of the car will be electronically limited to 250 kilometers per hour (155 mph). Acceleration to a hundred kilometers per hour (0-60 mph) is amazing 4.6 seconds, carbon emissions do not exceed 165 grams per kilometer. Germans even promised that fuel consumption will be under 7 liters per 100 kilometers (34 mpg).

German “hot-hatch” with all-wheel drive

The decision to install the four-wheel drive (known as 4MATIC) to A45 AMG was adopted in the early development of the new car. The power is transmitted to the wheels via seven-speed automatic transmission. Power and torque are equally divided between the front and rear axles with a ratio 50: 50.

Of course AMG developers did not forget to install 18-inch wheels, excellent brakes (front diameter 350, 330 mm rear), the harder and more direct chassis and additional engine cooling system, which is already known from the SLS.

“The target group buyers will be people aged 30 to 40 years who are looking for a car that combines the performance and technology, and are successful in their careers. Automobile is attractive for our more traditional older buyers,” said AMG boss Ola’s Kallenius.

Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG price which will be officially presented at the Geneva Motor Show will be a little over 40 thousand euros.
