New 2014 Range Rover Sport revealed by latest James Bond agent Daniel Craig.

Brand new 2014 Range Rover Sport has been revealed in New York Auto Show. This beautiful English SUV (or should I say Indian-English because the Range Rover brand was sold to an Indian corporation Tata back in 2008) was presented by James Bond Daniel Craig.

Longer wheelbase for more spacious interior

2014 Range Rover Sport is shorter than its predecessor but offers more interior space.

The first generation of Range Rover Sport has experienced tremendous success since it has become the most profitable model of Jaguar Land Rover. The sales numbers were especially great in New York and that is part of the reason the new generation was presented in New York International Auto Show.

Compared to the previous generation, the new Range Rover Sport is shorter by 6.2 centimeters but has a 17.8 centimeters longer wheelbase. In comparison with the classic range rover it is 14.9 centimeters shorter.

Basic Range Rover and the Sport version are sharing a lot more parts than their predecessors. Key parts of the new aluminum chassis and transmission for example. Although the rear overhang is shorter than before the Range Rover Sport gained more interior space for passengers and even space for two electrically folding seats in the back of the car.

New Range Rover Sport Engines

With the same engine, the new Sport is almost half a ton lighter.

Engine specification

  • 3.0 liter LR-V6 Supercharged

Turbo charged
Horsepower: 340 HP
Torque: 332 lbs.-ft. @ 3,500 rpm
four-wheel drive
CO2 emissions: 264g/km
Acceleration (0-100 km/h): 7.2 sec
Maximum speed: 210 km/h /131 mph

  • 5.0 liter LR-V8 Supercharged

Turbo charged
Horsepower: 510 HP

four-wheel drive
CO2 emissions: 321g/km
Acceleration (0-100 km/h): 5.3 sec
Maximum speed: 225 km/h /140 mph

One of the main highlights of the 2014 Range Rover Sport is the lower weight. Comparing the new and old V6 engine version the new model lost 420 kilograms. Wind resistance has been also improved with an aerodynamic drag coefficient of just 0.34 Cd which is great for a sport utility vehicle.

This popular SUV will be available with 3.0l V6 and 5.0l V8 petrol engine both turbo charged and equipped with the Start & Stop system. The power will be transferred to all four wheels through the ZF’s eight-speed automatic transmission.

Additional diesel and petrol engine are planned for the next year when we can also expect lately very popular diesel-electric hybrid version.

The Range Rover Sport will have a reduction gear for 50:50 torque distribution while the serial torque distribution between front and rear axle stands at 42 front and 58 rear.

Conservatively luxurious interior is impressive

The interior of the car is pleasant and conservatively luxurious at the same time. The driving position and ergonomics are impressive and without apparent weaknesses.

Additional equipment is at the level of a higher prestige.

Infotainment system (connectivity with your smart phone, WiFi spot) to audio equipment of the manufacturer Meridiana (with more than 23 speakers and a total output of 1,700 watts). The same applies to electronic support systems where there is no technological achievement which RRS would not have.

Besides all prestige and equipment Range Rover Sport is a truly dynamic driving machine, whether you find yourself on ordinary roads, which may be straight or curved, or on terrain.
