The Nissan X-Trail Bobsleigh, created for the purpose of commercial video for the Nissan X-Trail, is the world’s first seven-seat bobsled. The Japanese vehicle manufacturer said that the inspiration for the design and technology of bobsled was taken from their sport SUV X-Trail which also has room for seven passengers.

For the seven-seat bobsled project Nissan connected with Ian Richardson and Diego Menardi, who are specialists in this Olympic sport. Ian Richardson and Diego Menardi have together more than 50 years of experience in the industry. They provide many winning bobsled teams around the world with the equipment and their valuable Olympic experience.

The head of design at Nissan Design Europe Darryl Scriven explains that the process of production was the same as in making a new car. They started with a blank sheet of paper and tried to create the most aerodynamic model using supercomputers.

X-Trail Bobsleigh has a 360-degree view of the surrounding area, just like the X-Trail SUV

In doing so their example was Nissan X-Trail model. X-Trail Bobsleigh inherited the total number of seats from an X-Trail SUV, the design of the V-Motion front grille as well as boomerang-shaped headlights. Bobsled measures 4.2 meters in length and weighs 895 kilograms. On the ice track it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 30 seconds, top speed is 105 km/h, but the accelerations may go up to 4.5 G.

Each of the members of the bobsled has a 360 degree view of the surroundings, also from a bird’s perspective, similar to SUV’s around view monitor, which is the part of the equipment in the Nissan X-Trail.

It seems like the popularity of interesting and unusual advertisement and commercials for the purpose of different vehicle assistant systems is on the rise. Do you still remember the backward driving trailer ad promoting VW’s trailer assist feature?
